Weyburn's Richy Roy is making international moves in the electronic dance music (EDM) scene, signing contracts to release new music with two different international labels. The local DJ and producer recently signed his first contract with Bass Feature, a Swiss-based label, to release two of his tracks.
“These guys are international and super excited that it's my first signing,” Roy said.
While the tracks will be released digitally, which is common for EDM singles, Roy explained the signing opens up significant opportunities. He noted that Bass Feature is heavily involved in European electronic dance music festivals.
“Now that you have a signing to a label, it opens the doors to be recognized by a lot of other labels, a lot of other festivals, which means I'd be able to start DJing at these festivals and travelling around," he said. Roy added that his ultimate goal is to perform at an EDM festival in Europe, with Tomorrowland being a bucket list ambition.
In addition to the Swiss deal, Roy has more new music on the immediate horizon. He is set to release a third track on August 18th with Lifted Global, an international label with a Canadian-based sub-label called Levelled Music.
“They've signed artists from countries all over the world,” Roy mentioned. “I'm super excited to be working with these guys and be part of the Lifted team.”
That track will be available on all major streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Amazon Music, and YouTube.
The new partnerships will also connect Roy with more artists for collaborations, helping to elevate his music as he looks forward to “making some excellent bangers, as they call it.”
