The town of Bruno once again sets out to prove that big things come in cherry-sized packages as it hosts its much-loved Bruno Cherry Sunday on August 10. The annual event draws visitors from across the Prairies for a day of sweet indulgence, vibrant entertainment, and heartfelt community spirit.
Set on the scenic grounds of the historic St. Therese Institute of Faith and Mission, the orchards that inspired the event's inception in 2003 continue to thrive today, showcasing the hardy dwarf sour cherry varieties developed by the University of Saskatchewan. These cherries remain at the heart of the event and on the tip of every tongue.
As you enter the gates, you’ll find the air thick with the scent of cherry sauce and sizzling cherry smokies. Culinary creativity runs wild with cherry sundaes, supported by Bruno School, pancakes draped in cherry compote, and even elephant ears crowned with tangy cherry toppings.
Each dish not only delighted taste buds but also helps fund local organizations like the school and the Bruno Lions.
The pancake breakfast gets under way at 9 am and runs until noon.
Once again, performances will echo through the grounds where local talent and regional acts keep audiences tapping their feet and dancing in the grass. This year’s lineup includes the Riley Family, the nostalgic hits of Memory Lane, and the Willie Sons. Rounding out the entertainment are Monique Reinhart and Godwell Haze.
The artisan and trade market are always a hive of activity. Vendors offer everything from fresh prairie produce and handcrafted jewelry to quirky artwork and baked goods, many with cherry influences, of course.
Families with children will find plenty to keep the young ones busy. The kids’ carnival includes face painting and balloon twisting throughout the day.
Whether you come for the food, the music, the market, or the memories, Bruno Cherry Sunday will leave you cheery and cherry-cheeked. Join everyone for the festivities on Sunday, August 10 at the St. Therese Institute grounds in Bruno.
