Siksika Nation is moving forward with plans for a new west regional wastewater system.
Nation administration revealed the planning study for the project on July 23. Siksika's engineering services department is partnering with ISL Engineering and Land Services to conduct the study.
The project aims to improve and upgrade wastewater infrastructure serving the west side of the Nation, extending service to the townsite. Approximately 700 homes on the west side will benefit from the addition.
"The project is needed because the current systems have minimal to no remaining capacity and are reaching their end of life," wrote the Nation in a public notice.
As part of the planning process, the Nation is seeking input from community members. Information will be shared with residents, including potential locations for a lagoon facility.
An open house will be held at the Siksika Piiksapi Memorial Arbor on Aug. 18 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to gather community feedback.
In addition, residents can complete an online survey related to the project between Aug. 11 and 31.
The infrastructure initiative is part of Siksika Nation's broader commitment to maintaining a healthy, safe environment and supporting continued community development.
