An April 2024 third-party assessment of 12 facilities owned by the City of Weyburn determined there were five buildings in need of roof replacement.

Of those, the roof of the Weyburn Police Service Headquarters was the highest priority for replacement this year.

"There were several leaks inside, and they were they're being fixed and repaired over the years. The condition of the roof was no longer serviceable to continue making those repairs," said Director of Leisure Services, Richard Henning. "That was prioritized due to just the condition of the roof and also the critical infrastructure underneath, the police station. We need that to be maintained."

"The old roof just had a lot of wrinkles and blisters and some open laps in it, and the laps are where the two sheets would overlap, and those have all pulled away."

Flynn Canada Inc. began work on the new roof on July 14th.

"They've got on average about six employees on site," he noted.  "Their expected completion date is October 31st, and they're working on our shift rotation where they're in for, I think, approximately 10 days and then off for four."

"It's a Suprema product, a flat roof system. So that consists of some vapor barriers, layers, insulation, and another SBS cap sheet. We've got a 15-year warranty on it. Hopefully, we can get 20 more years out of it before we have to look at a replacement. But if we keep up with the maintenance, hopefully push that out further."

There are another four City-owned buildings in need of roof replacement over the next five years.

"So we're just going through that in the budgetary process and making sure we have the Council well-informed of what's coming down the road in the years to come, and we've got this projected out for five to 10 years where we need to do maintenance and where we need to do replacements."
