Mya Kate brought the glam and the vocals as she kicked off the Stampede weekend dressed in diamonds and sparkles.

The Strathmore Stampede featured her musical talents on the main stage on Friday (Aug 1) as part of the Emerging Artist Showcase.

Making her third annual appearance, Kate performed several original songs along with a few covers, including Tennessee Whiskey and Mama's Broken Heart.

"I sang a slower [original] about my past and being a dancer," Kate said. "I wrote a brand new one that's going to be the next one to be recorded."

The showcase offers Kate a chance to highlight her talent and build awareness of her emerging career as a musician.

"I started out when I was about 13," said Kate. "I fell in love with being on a stage and making other people happy, and it all fell into place."

The self-taught guitarist added that while singing comes more naturally to her, playing the guitar requires more effort.

"The guitar gets a lot more work than my vocals, but I really focus on my vocals to help me with everything else."

Despite the challenges, Kate said staying true to herself and her brand is something she always sticks to.

"I've always joked that my thing is big eyelashes and sparkles, and it's big eyelashes and sparkles no matter where I am."

Kate was just one of the artists competing in the Emerging Artist Showcase.
