Join folks and families from both sides of the border on Saturday, August 9th for a landmark day of community and celebration: the Summer Floral Celebration, culminating in a powerful symbolic event—the Handshake Across the Border at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 9. Held on the grounds of this one-of-a-kind Garden that straddles the United States–Canada border, the day brings together people from both countries in a living tribute to peace, friendship, and natural beauty.

'This event is about bringing together the people who make up our communities—neighbors, families, and friends—to share a gesture of peace and unity. They're also welcoming dignitaries from both sides, including tourism officials from North Dakota and Manitoba, local mayors, and representatives from Minot Air Force Base and CFB Shilo. This once-in-a-lifetime event will be documented by drone and ground photography.'

'We’re at a time when cross-border relationships are being tested, whether by economics, politics, or lingering post-pandemic habits. The Handshake Across the Border is our way of renewing that relationship—not in a conference room or a policy document, but out in the open air, with real people holding hands across an international line. It’s a simple act, but a powerful one. Join us, arrive early and bring your friends and family.'

Our Summer Floral Celebration on August 9 also features a full day of events, including garden tours, a car show, floral design demonstrations, scavenger hunts and other kids’ activities. Vendors will be on hand with handmade jewelry, arts and crafts, baked goods, specialty drinks and more. Enjoy a day of friendship and fun with the Garden in beautiful peak bloom.

CEO Tim Chapman

“The U.S.–Canada border is the longest unfortified border between two countries in the world—and that’s not just a fact, it’s a symbol. In a time when so many borders are defined by conflict or division, ours is defined by trust, cooperation, and shared responsibility. That’s what the Peace Garden was built to celebrate. When people join hands here, they’re not just making a gesture—they’re participating in a living commitment to peace that’s lasted nearly a century.”    — Tim Chapman, CEO
