Environment Canada issued a Special Weather statement for Foothills County and Vulcan County, due to risk of funnel clouds.

According to Environment Canada, the conditions are favourable for funnel clouds developing today.

As a result, Environment Canada issued the Special Weather Statement for:

Foothills Co. near Okotoks and De Winton, Alta. (072531)
Foothills Co. near High River and Aldersyde, Alta. (072532)
Foothills Co. near Cayley, Alta. (072533)
Foothills Co. near Blackie, Alta. (072620)
Vulcan Co. near Arrowwood Herronton and Queenstown, Alta. (072641)
Vulcan Co. near Vulcan and Ensign, Alta. (072642)
Vulcan Co. near Carmangay and Champion, Alta. (072643)
Vulcan Co. near Lomond Travers and Little Bow Reservoirs, Alta. (072644)
Vulcan Co. near Milo, Alta. (072645)

These funnel clouds are generated due to the weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or thunderstorms.

These weak rotations aren't normally dangerous near the ground.

But, according to Environment Canada, there is a chance the rotation could intensify, turning into a weak landspout tornado.

All funnel cloud sightings should be treated seriously, and if a funnel cloud develops nearby, get ready to take shelter.

Funnel clouds typically appear with minimal or no warning.
