A section of Highway 40 in Kananaskis Country remains closed Sunday following a mudslide south of the Mount Lipsett Day Use Area.

Alberta Parks confirmed in an Aug. 2 advisory that the road is closed “until further notice” due to a “mudslide across Highway 40” near coordinates 50.520233, -114.916962.

The affected area includes:

  • Elbow-Sheep Wildland Provincial Park

  • Mist Creek Day Use

  • Mist Creek Trail

  • Mist Ridge Trail

511 Alberta also reported the closure Sunday morning.

A separate mudslide was also reported along Highway 1, according to 511 Alberta.

Weather outlook

While no rainfall or other weather advisories have been issued for Airdrie or the surrounding areas, the forecast calls for unsettled conditions throughout the week.

Environment Canada’s Sunday forecast calls for a 60 per cent chance of showers and a risk of thunderstorms, with a high of 19 C and a UV index of 6. Skies are expected to clear late in the evening, with a low of 9 C.

Monday will bring increasing cloudiness and a 60 per cent chance of afternoon showers, again with a risk of thunderstorms and a high of 20 C.

Rain remains in the forecast through Saturday, with daily highs ranging from 15 to 22 C and varying chances of showers each day.
