A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Wheatland County, including near Lyalta, Carseland, and Strathmore.
According to Environment Canada (EC), thunderstorms have developed over the foothills and Cypress Hills, moving towards the east and northeast.
"Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain," wrote EC.
Heavy rain can lead to flash floods, while large hail can cause damage and injury.
"Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain," added the organization.
