A new champion has emerged following the Championship Monday (Aug. 4) chuckwagon races at the Strathmore Stampede.

In a penalty-free championship final heat, High River's Jason Glass won the Stampede with a run of 1:13.94, defeating defending champion Chanse Vigen, who had a time of 1:14.85

Barely behind Vigen was Evan Salmond with a time of 1:14.93, followed by Lane Tournier in fourth place with a time of 1:15.02.

Glass credits his horses for his success.

“To outrun some of these other drivers, you need to be on top of your game, and those horses need to love what they do," said Glass.

This is Glass' third time winning the Strathmore Stampede, but the first time under the Championship Final Heat format. He achieved the title alongside outriders Tyson Whitehead and Trey MacGillivray.

The World Professional Chuckwagon Association is now headed to British Columbia for the Battle of the North in Dawson Creek. The event begins on Wednesday.
