The Royal Saskatchewan Museum (RSM) and the T. rex Discovery Centre (TRDC) are gearing up to celebrate one of the province’s most famous residents, Scotty the T. rex, on Saturday, August 16.

The annual event, dubbed Scotty’s Unearthed Day, marks the anniversary of the 1991 discovery of the world’s largest Tyrannosaurus rex near Eastend, Sask., by high school principal Robert Gebhardt.

The RSM in Regina will offer a full afternoon of activities on August 16th, 2025, beginning with musical performances by Sharon Gudereit, also known as Mz. Muzik, who will sing two songs live in the CN T. rex Gallery at 1:30 p.m., followed by interactive sing-alongs at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Visitors can also meet Munchie, the museum’s mascot, and interact with baby dinosaur puppets, attend “Scotty Talks” presentations in the gallery, and get hands-on in the Learning Lab with a closer look at the famed fossil.

In Eastend, the TRDC will celebrate with cupcakes, cookies, and family-friendly programming. A Scotty-themed scavenger hunt will offer guests the chance to win a dinosaur gift basket, while a special presentation titled Fossil Flora and Fauna of Southwest Saskatchewan will be held at 2 p.m. in the Discovery Theatre. Daily drop-in programs for children will also be available.

The RSM is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., while the TRDC welcomes visitors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Labour Day. Admission is by donation.
