A Saskatchewan teen killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash in southern Alberta is being remembered as a kind-hearted and adventurous soul just days away from a major milestone.

RCMP have confirmed that a 17-year-old male was found dead at the scene of a rollover along Highway 27, just east of the Morrin Bridge near Drumheller, on Wednesday afternoon. Police say they received a report of an abandoned vehicle around 12:45 p.m., and upon arrival, discovered a sedan with a lone male occupant.

Emergency crews from EMS, local fire departments, and the Drumheller RCMP responded, but the teen was pronounced dead on scene. No other individuals or vehicles were involved. The highway was closed for several hours while investigators combed the area. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The victim has been identified by family as Tye Thompson, a recent high school graduate who lives in Eatonia Sask.

The family had recently moved back to Saskatchewan to be closer to loved ones, and Jess had been commuting over five hours for work shifts. The fundraiser is aimed at helping cover funeral costs and household expenses as the family takes time to grieve.

Now, as Thompson’s 18th birthday approaches, loved ones are preparing to gather. A birthday memorial celebration is planned for Aug. 6 in Eatonia to honour what would have been his 18th birthday.

“The officers of the Drumheller RCMP send their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” RCMP said in a statement.
