A 28-year-old man is recovering in stable condition after a serious altercation in Sandy Bay First Nation on Monday evening.
Just after 7 p.m. on August 4, emergency services were called to a home in the community where a man was reported to have been stabbed.
Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers were the first to arrive and provided initial first aid. Paramedics and STARS air ambulance then transported the man to Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre.
According to police, the incident began as a consensual fight between two men. During the altercation, it’s believed one of the men used a sharp object and stabbed the other several times.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Gary Joseph McIvor, was taken into custody at the scene. He has since been charged with aggravated assault and was held in custody to appear in court in Portage la Prairie on August 5.
