Tornado warnings have now ended for most areas, but Environment Canada says a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for southern Manitoba, including the City of Winnipeg.

As of 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, there is still one isolated patch of severe thunderstorm warnings southeast of Winnipeg.

Earlier in the evening, funnel clouds were spotted near Garven Road (Provincial Road 213), just east of Vernon Road, looking southeast toward Oakbank. The photos, taken by Vince Chan around 5:35 p.m., did not show any funnels touching down.

Environment Canada notes that conditions remain favourable for severe thunderstorms, potentially bringing strong wind gusts up to 90 km/h, hail the size of golf balls, and heavy rainfall at rates up to 50 mm per hour. There's also a possibility of isolated tornadoes, particularly near the Ontario border, and a continued risk of funnel clouds in central Manitoba.

Possible impacts include damage to roofs, fences, branches, and temporary shelters. The agency also warns about the dangers of lightning, heavy rain causing flash flooding, and strong wind gusts damaging trees, buildings, and overturning vehicles.

The weather forecast for tonight calls for partly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of showers and risk of severe thunderstorms in the evening, clearing overnight. Winds from the southwest at 20 km/h will become light late in the evening, with temperatures dropping to a low of 17°C.

Thursday's forecast predicts sunny conditions with increasing cloudiness in the afternoon and local smoke. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 29°C, with a humidex of 34 and a high UV index of 7.
