An Artificial Intelligence data centre is coming to Strathmore.
During the Stampede long weekend, it was announced that Prairie Sky Data Solutions (PSDS) would be developing the centre, which is expected to be operational by some point in 2026.
Several notable public figures attended the announcement, including Strathmore Mayor Pat Fule, Chestermere-Strathmore MLA Chantelle de Jonge, and Bow River MP David Bexte.
"The initial phase repurposes an existing 10,000 square-foot cannabis production facility through a retrofit-first approach," wrote PSDS. "This innovative strategy significantly reduces environmental impact, shortens construction timelines, and aligns closely with Alberta's commitment to responsible development.
PSDS has already invested $11 million towards construction, and is currently raising another $15 million as well.
Phase one construction is expected to bring in 20 construction jobs, generating around $15 million in economic activity.
FortisAlberta has already helped the centre secure 1.5 MW of power, with the centre expected to produce 13 MW by the end of phase one.
Following that, PSDS will create a full build-out, bringing in an additional 36 MW of capacity and a secondary location for the centre.
"This project represents more than just a data centre. It's a long-term investment in Alberta's economic future," said Fule. "From job creation to infrastructure modernization, Prairie Sky is helping shape a stronger, more diversified provincial economy."
The project is still looking for early investors.
