The City of Winkler has confirmed that festival-goers should not be affected by the ministerial order for mosquito fogging in Winkler and surrounding areas. The order comes after mosquitoes collected in the region tested positive for West Nile virus.
“We do not expect the fogging to have any impact to the Festival,” said Jordan Driedger, Director of Community Services with the City of Winkler. “The fogging operation within City limits will begin after the Festival activities have been completed and will finish prior to the Festival starting up again the next morning.”
The first application of mosquito fogging is scheduled for tonight into tomorrow morning, weather permitting, with a second application tentatively set for Monday, August 11th, into Tuesday morning.
The insecticide being used is DeltaGard 20EW, which is classified as a reduced-risk pesticide.
