As families prepare for another school year, the financial strain of back-to-school shopping can be overwhelming, especially for those on a limited income. That’s why the Humboldt Alliance Church has partnered with 107.5 Bolt FM for the “Pack a Backpack” drive, aimed at ensuring every student starts the year off right.

“Back to school season can be expensive, especially for low-income families,” said Riki Lucas, administrative assistant with the Alliance Church. “Our hope is that this drive lightens the burden for those families and ensures that every child starts the year prepared.”

Having the right tools, Lucas noted, is crucial to a student’s success in the classroom. “When students have the basic tools that they need for school, they can focus on learning instead of worrying what they don't have,” she said. “When all the students have the same tools, no one is left behind or singled out, so having the right tools makes the kids feel ready and capable to learn.”

The community has already shown tremendous support. “Thank you to those who have donated the items thus far. However, there still is a need to be filled,” Lucas added. “Therefore, the collection of the school supplies will continue until the 15th. This is the perfect time for businesses and churches in Humboldt and area to be a part of something that makes a huge difference in the lives of these kiddos.”

Donations of school supplies can be dropped off at 107.5 Bolt FM at 640 10th Street or at the Humboldt Alliance Church. Monetary donations are also welcomed for those unable to shop.

“If individuals or businesses wish to donate, they can reach out to me personally and I can let them know specifically what is still needed,” said Lucas. “If they want to phone me or text me, my phone number is 306-231-9352 or they can e-mail me at admin@humboldtalliancechurch.com.”
