A local volunteer was honoured for his efforts during the Strathmore Stampede long weekend.

At the stampede, Donny Johansen was awarded the Jeff Kalbhen Memorial Buckle for his work with the Strathmore Agricultural Society.

"The Jeff Kalbhen Memorial Buckle is a meaningful recognition given to a volunteer whose quiet leadership, hard work, and love for western heritage reflect the true spirit of this award," wrote the Ag Society through social media.

The buckle is given in memory of Jeff Kalbhen and celebrates those who give their time to help make the Strathmore Stampede so special.

"Thank you, Donny. Your presence is felt in every corner of the grounds, and your selfless efforts are deeply woven into the legacy of the Strathmore Stampede," added the society. "This event is stronger, prouder, and more meaningful because of you."

Johansen began his rodeo career back in the early 1970s.
