The Canada Summer Games are off and running in St. John’s, NL with the first day of competition wrapped up on Sunday.
The Men’s Baseball contingent for Team Saskatchewan has a strong local component featuring three players and one coach from the East Central Red Sox Camp. Jarret Rude and Cade Britz of Muenster, along with Pryor Dyck of Watrous and pitching coach Chad Hofmann of Muenster are all in the mix for Team Saskatchewan.
In their opening matchup on Sunday, Team Sask handled Team Alberta with an 8-1 victory. Jarret Rude opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second. Aidan Marien and Mason Fauser followed up with RBI singles to give the Sask squad a three-run lead early on.
Pitcher Brandt Spence opened up on the mound for Team Sask surrendering only two hits and no runs over three and two-thirds innings. Landon Hebig closed out the game in relief.
Rude and Aiden Kilshaw led the way with RBIs in the game, each driving in two.
Team Sask Men are back on the field today with a test against Quebec who dominated Ontario in their opener taking the game 11-0
Women’s baseball, featuring Humboldt’s Camden Suchan gets under way next week.
