The Moose Jaw–Swift Current region had the lowest unemployment rate of any region in Canada in July, according to Statistics Canada. 

The region’s unemployment rate was 2.4 per cent. The next closest in the country was the Yorkton–Melville region at 3.1 per cent. This is significantly down from an unemployment rate of 5.2 per cent in July of last year. 

The employment rate also increased from 59.7 per cent last year to 61.6 per cent this year. 

About 500 jobs were added to the labour force over the past year. There were 54,800 people in the labour force last month, compared to 54,300 in July 2024. 

There were also 2,000 more people working in the region, with 53,500 employed last month compared to 51,500 a year earlier. 

Provincially, Saskatchewan had the lowest unemployment rate in Canada in July at 4.6 per cent, compared to 5.3 per cent last year. 

The provincial employment rate rose slightly from 64.9 per cent in 2024 to 65.4 per cent this year. 

Nationally, Canada’s unemployment rate was 6.9 per cent and the employment rate was 61.6 per cent. In July 2024, unemployment was 6.4 per cent and employment was 62 per cent. 

The employment rates are calculated on a three-month rolling average, not seasonally adjusted.
