The Northwestern Health Unit has reported 46 new COVID-19 cases have been found in the region, which is the most reported in one day since February 13, 2021, when 40 new cases were reported.

Twenty-six cases were found in the Kenora Health Hub, 8 in the Dryden Health Hub, the Fort Frances health Hub is reporting 6 new cases, two each in the Rainy River and Sioux Lookout Health Hubs, and one each both the Emo and Red Lake Health Hubs.

Follow up with the persons involved and their contacts has started according to protocol. Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

The addition of the newly found cases puts the active cases count up to 117 active cases connected to the NWHU catchment area.

The health unit is also reporting seven hospitalizations in the district.

On Monday, the province of Ontario reported 3,784 new COVID-19 cases, which is down from Sunday when they reported 4,177.

NWHU recommends that everyone, including those who have been vaccinated, assume COVID-19 is in their community and practise preventive measures like physical distancing, wearing a mask in enclosed public spaces and when physical distancing is a challenge, good hand hygiene, and not touching their face.
