Winnipeg Animal Services is overwhelmed as it cares for an unusually high number of dogs.
Over the past week, the agency has seen a big influx of strays. However, adoptions have slowed to almost a complete standstill.
"If you've been thinking about adopting one of our long-term dogs, now's the perfect time to make a difference," said the Winnipeg Animal Services in a post on Facebook. "Maybe this is the little nudge you needed!"
With the increase in dogs in their facility, the agency has reduced the adoption fee to help these pets find their forever homes.
They say that for those not ready to adopt, there are other ways to help.
"You can still help our community by making sure your pets are licensed and spayed or neutered. Licensing helps us reunite lost pets with their families quickly, and spaying/neutering keeps our animal population healthy and safe," said the agency. "We all have a role in making our community a better place for every creature that calls it home."
Adoptions can be done in person at Winnipeg Animal Services, Monday to Friday from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Winnipeg Animal Services is located at 1057 Logan Avenue.
