Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Daryl Harrison and Kelvington-Wadena MLA Chris Beaudry officially marked the start of the 2025 harvest season on Monday.

Harrison said agriculture remains a vital part of the province’s economy, accounting for 10 per cent of the provincial GDP and 41 per cent of Saskatchewan’s total global exports.

“Harvest time is a reminder of the importance of the agriculture sector to Saskatchewan’s economy,” Harrison said. “I want to extend my appreciation to every producer, farm family and agricultural worker who contributes to the province’s economic growth and export strength.”

Officials urged producers and agricultural workers to prioritize safety during the busy season, including taking breaks, ensuring proper meals and sleep, keeping fire suppression equipment nearby, and watching for power lines when operating machinery. Drivers are also reminded to be cautious of large equipment on roads and highways.

Mental health supports remain available throughout the season, with the Farm Stress Line offering free, confidential 24/7 assistance at 1-800-667-4442.

Updates on crop conditions and progress will be posted regularly via the 2025 Crop Report on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) at @SKAgriculture, or online at www.saskatchewan.ca/crop-report.
