A 33-year-old has been arrested following a string of break-ins and thefts in the south end of Winnipeg.
Beginning on March 24, 2025 when suspects forced entry into an apartment building in the 500 block of St. Anne's Avenue and caused $2,000 in damages after breaking into tenants' mailboxes.
Mail and three bicycles were stolen from the parking garage in the basement.
The same day, suspects forced entry into two separate apartment buildings in the 200 block of Beliveau Road and broke into the tenants' mailboxes and stole mail.
Also on March 24, suspects forced entry into an apartment building in the 100 block of Worthington Avenue and broke into the tenant's storage lockers. $1,600 in damages was caused. An undetermined amount of property was stolen.
A DNA sample that was collected at one of the scenes matches the suspect's profile on the Convicted Offender Index of the National DNA Data Bank.
On August 1, the male suspect was arrested on the strength of a DNA warrant and a blood sample was obtained.
Further investigation and DNA confirmation led to the 33-year-old to be linked as a suspect in the above-mentioned incidents.
The male suspect was arrested by CSU members on August 11 in the 300 block of Kennedy Street without incident. A pocket knife was found on his person and seized as evidence.
He is charged with four counts of Break & Enter, Possession of a Weapon, and Breach of Recognizance.
He has been detained in custody.
