On Wednesday, August 13, Swift Current’s RE/MAX team will host a fundraising BBQ at their downtown office. Everyone is welcome to attend between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and all proceeds raised will be donated to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Lanette Thoreson shares that giving back to the community is simply part of the REMAX way, with a long history of supporting the foundation.
“We feel that the foundation services all of Southwest Saskatchewan, and our children are important to us,” she says. “We want to make sure they have the best healthcare possible.”
The team will also be sponsoring the August 23 Cowboys and Chrome event at the Ag & Ex.
Thoreson, a licensed broker and the owner of RE/MAX’s Swift Current location, says she and her colleagues are committed to the neighbourhoods in which they live.
“We all enjoy giving back to our community,” she says. “We love being out in the community, knowing what’s going on and staying in touch with our clients.”
As one of the region’s largest brokerages, REMAX works with clients across numerous towns and small urban centres – also specializing in farms and acreages. Together, these markets bring a wide range of clients with unique needs, and REMAX is well-equipped to meet them with unmatched expertise.
“We have agents dedicated to specific areas,” Thoreson explains. “This gives our clients the advantage of working with an agent who truly knows the community, rather than an agent unfamiliar with it. We understand what’s happening in those smaller communities.”
Prospective clients seeking rural properties, for example, will work with agents familiar with wells, septic systems and other components of the rural real estate landscape.
Thoreson notes that the latter half of summer often brings a sellers’ market, as homeowners from provinces like BC and Ontario look to relocate to more affordable properties in Western Canada.
“The market is currently really strong,” she says. “We’re busy in Swift Current, and when we’re busy in the larger centres, it expands out to the smaller communities, which become even more affordable.”
She also has some advice for sellers.
“It always comes down to curb appeal,” she says. “Make sure everything is looking good from the outside, because once they see work needing done on the outside they keep seeing more of it on the inside. With good curb appeal, people walk in feeling happy, and they’ll see fewer negative things on the inside of the house.”
Buyers should also have their pre-approval completed before pursuing properties so they can shop in the right price range, she says.
Additionally, sellers who work with Thoresen and the RE/MAX team will be able to leverage technological and digital tools that competitor agencies might not have. With their 360 camera, as just one example, they can create virtual tours of a home and draw up a floor plan, allowing buyers to know the layout before going in and having a look.
“We’re always trying to stay ahead of the new technology,” she says. “We want our clients to know we’re doing our very best for them.”
Thoresen points out that the RE/MAX Swift Current office is conveniently situated downtown, and open Monday-Friday from 9-5. The 261-1 Ave NW office location is also where community members can take part in the fundraising BBQ on August 13. Donations in any amount are welcome, with a base cost of $6.
