The City of Moose Jaw gave an update on some of the capital projects and road maintenance programs as summer construction season is well underway. 

The engineering department mainly looks after long-term capital projects such as cast iron replacement. Some of the project that the engineering department has completed this summer include: 

  • Milling and paving 1.5 km of roadways and replaced 145 m of sidewalks as part of the 2025 Road Renewal Project. 
  • Replaced 172 m of sidewalk as part of the 2025 Sidewalk, Curb and Gutter Rehabilitation Project. 
  • Inspected about 6.6 km of sanitary and storm sewers via CCTV. 
  • Installed a 150 kW natural gas standby generator at the 11th Avenue Northwest and High Street lift station. 
  • Replaced the grit building classifier at the wastewater treatment plant. 
  • Completed the infrastructure renewal phase 10 at Fourth Avenue Southwest from Duffield Street West to Coteau Street West, Sixth Avenue Southwest from Grandview Street West to Coteau Street West, and Fairford Street West between Main Street North and First Avenue Northwest. 

The public works department looks after items such as manholes, line painting and water mains. Some of the highlights from this summer include: 

  • Repairing 25 manholes. 
  • Painting 45 crosswalks. 
  • Painting 7.6 km of lane lines. 
  • Grading 49.6 km of gravel roads and 9.2 km of back lanes. 
  • Completing 21 water main repairs 
  • Completing 445.21 tonnes of asphalt repairs, and using 51 tonnes for recycler reclaimed asphalt. 

The Community Services Department attends to capital projects in city facilities. Some of the projects completed include: 

  • Repairs to the amphitheatre stairs in Crescent Park. 
  • Upgrades to the parking lot of the Off Leash Dog Park. 
  • Replacement of the paved pathway adjacent to VLA Gate. 
  • Replacement of cooling equipment at the Kinsmen Sportsplex, supplying air to the offices and lobby. 
  • Repairs to the Kinsmen Sportsplex waterslide and pool deck tile. 
  • Replacement of the Yara Centre turf. 
  • Construction of a cricket pitch concrete base north of the Kinsmen Sportsplex. 

The city thanks residents for their patience during construction season. Once again, motorists are reminded to use caution is construction zones and obey all signs and barricades for everyone’s safety.
