Today is Miracle Treat Day at Dairy Queen, and Moose Jaw is coming together to support a cause that’s close to home. From every Blizzard sold, net proceeds will go directly to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Kortni Peterson, a local girl from Central Butte with a remarkable story of resilience, will be serving Blizzards at the Moose Jaw Dairy Queen from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. She will be at the 1711 Main Street N location.
Kortni’s journey began in June 2023 when she suffered a tonic-clonic seizure that lasted over two hours. She was airlifted to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon, where she spent four days in the pediatric intensive care unit. After further testing, she was diagnosed with Rasmussen’s encephalitis—a rare neurological condition.
In 2024, Kortni underwent three brain surgeries in Calgary, culminating in a final procedure in November of last year to disconnect the right hemisphere of her brain. Her recovery has been similar to that of a stroke survivor, but she’s making progress and enjoying her summer.
Audra Peterson, Kortni's mother, shared how vital the hospital has been to their family: “We went over 30 times last year. If we didn’t have the hospital here in our province, we’d have to go all the way to Calgary. The staff is top-notch, and the care Kortni received was amazing.”
She encourages everyone to come out today: “You don’t realize just how important it is until you need it. Come on down for ice cream and say hi to Kortni—she’s super excited to serve everyone.”
Kortni had one simple message for the community: “Come see me at Dairy Queen!”
So grab a Blizzard, support a great cause, and learn from the Peterson Family how your purchase makes a difference. The 440 Caribou Street W Location will also be participating.
