A traffic stop and a report of a potential impaired driver kept the Wadena RCMP busy at the beginning of the month.
The two incidents led to the Wadena RCMP seizing illicit drugs, firearms and ammunition.
On August 6, at approximately at 11:00 am, the Wadena RCMP conducted a traffic stop in Kylemore. The male driver did not stop for police and instead pulled into a residential driveway where he failed to comply with the direction of RCMP officers.
Wadena RCMP arrested the male, during the search officers located illicit drugs including 97 grams of cocaine, 27 grams of crack cocaine and 7 grams of methamphetamine.
When they searched the vehicle, officers located a set of brass knuckles and a semi-automatic handgun.
As a result, 37-year-old Daniel McFarlane of Wadena has been charged with the following:
-one count, possession of drugs for the purposes of trafficking, Section 5(2), Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA);
-two counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
-one count, possession of a loaded, prohibited firearm without a license, Section 95(1), Criminal Code;
-one count, unsafe storage of a firearm, Section 86 (2), of the Criminal Code; and
-three counts, resisting arrest/obstructing a peace officer, Section 129 (a), Criminal Code.
McFarlane has been remanded into custody until his next scheduled court appearance in Wadena on September 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
On August 8, at approximately 6:15 am, Wadena RCMP received a report of potentially impaired driver driving near the beach of Fishing Lake First Nation.
Wadena RCMP were able to locate the vehicle in Wadena a short time later.
The driver failed to follow the officers instructions and was arrested.
Officers located two firearms, one of which was loaded, and several hundred rounds of ammunition during a search of the vehicle.
39-year-old Nathan Kayseas of Fishing Lake First Nation is charged with 17 offences, including:
-two counts, possession of a firearm without a licence, Section 92(1), Criminal Code;
-two counts, possession of firearm that was obtained through the commission of an offence, Section 96(1), Criminal Code;
-four counts, possession of ammunition while prohibited from possessing, Section 117.01(1), Criminal Code;
-one count, use of a firearm in a careless manner, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
-two counts, drive a motor vehicle knowing a firearm was inside, Section 94(1), Criminal Code;
-two counts, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
-two counts, drive while prohibited, Section 320.18(1)(a), Criminal Code; and
-one count, having a blood alcohol level over 80 mg/100ml within two hours of ceasing driving, Section 320.14(1)(b), Criminal Code;
-one count, resist arrest, Section 129(a), Criminal Code.
Kayseas has been remanded into custody until his next court appearance in Wadena on August 21, 2025, at 10 a.m. via CCTV.
