In less than 3 weeks Kenora will be hosting the Northern Ontario Men’s and Women’s Provincial Curling Championships from January 4-9, 2022.

Four women’s teams and eight men’s teams from all across Northwestern Ontario will be embarking on the Kenora Rec Centre to try and earn a berth in the Tim Hortons Brier, or the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Tracy Stasiuk is a member of the Collaboration Association and spoke on the excitement leading up to the event.

“Right now the number of teams that we’ve gotten and the fact that we have some local curlers curling, which was a surprise for us so that’s good news. There’s still a lot to do prior to this event happening. We’re looking forward to having these names here in Kenora. We’re looking forward to this excellent that we’re going to watch” said Stasiuk.

Below are the confirmed teams coming to the event:

Men’s

Brad Jacobs – Community First Curling Club (Sault Ste. Marie)

Jacob Reid - Community First Curling Club (Sault Ste. Marie)

Trevor Bonot – Fort William Curling Club

Joshua Szajewski – Keewatin Curling Club

Sandy MacEwan – Curl Sudbury

Dylan Johnston – Fort Frances Curling Club

Kory Carr – Port Arthur Curling Club

Chris Glibota – Community First Curling Club (Sault Ste. Marie)

Women's

Krista McCarville – Fort William Curling Club

Jennifer Briscoe – Port Arthur Curling Club

Haley Beaudry – Fort Frances Curling Club

Jackie McCormick – Stratton Curling Club

The event will kick off with opening ceremonies on January 5, 2021, and the first draw being at 2:00 p.m the same day. 

Full event passes and single draw tickets for the curling provincials are on sale and can be purchased at both the Kenora and Keewatin Curling Clubs.

Full event passes cost $100 and gets you into all the draws along with the semi-finals, and finals, while single-game tickets cost $20.

Due to COVID-19 guidelines, the Kenora Rec Centre can only operate at 50 per cent capacity, while is a maximum of 650 people.  

Stasiuk noted that they are still in need of volunteers and can find more information and contact info at the Kenora, and Keewatin Curling Club Facebook pages.

The 2022 Tim Hortons Brier will be held in Lethbridge, AB, from March 4-13, 2022.

The 2022 Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be held at the Fort Williams Garden in Thunder Bay, ON, from January 28 to February 6, 2022.
