The province of Saskatchewan has launched its official guide to the 2025-26 hunting season, as many are getting ready for the return of the season this fall. The guide includes multiple reminders for hunters about how to safely enjoy the hunting season this year.

"Hunting in Saskatchewan offers exceptional recreational opportunities, not only for our residents, but also for visitors across the world," said Environment Minister Travis Keisig. "Our government values the vital role hunters play as stewards of our natural landscapes and as contributors to local economies through tourism and community engagement."

The province specifies five ways you can make sure you're hunt-ready this fall.

1. Get your copy of the Saskatchewan Hunters Guide

The Hunters Guide in Saskatchewan lists off a number of important points for hunters, including season dates, options for licences and fees, and highlights concerning what is new for 2025, including species management plans, bovine tuberculosis, CWD updates, and more.

An online copy of the guide is available at saskatchewan.ca/hunting, with printed versions available at Government of Saskatchewan field offices, select retailers, and some provincial parks.

2. Purchase your hunting licences

As of August 1st, hunters can now purchase a Big Game Draw or regular licence.

The province offers several ways to get that licence:

  • Online through the Hunting, Angling, and Trapping Licence system.
  • In person at a Government of Saskatchewan field office or select provincial park offices.
  • In person from any Saskatchewan hunting licence issuer.
  • By phone at 1-855-848-4773  (credit card required).

In getting the licence, hunters must provide their HAL identification number or any other identification number previously added to their HAL account.

3. Get permission to hunt on private lands

In southern Saskatchewan, around 85 per cent of the land is privately owned or controlled, meaning consent to be on the land you're hunting is often mandatory before entry and hunting.

Consent for hunting can be done through writing, orally, or through signage, and a person can look for consent in person, by telephone, or through email.

The province has its own Hunting Permission on Private Land fact sheet for hunters who would like to know more about properly getting consent to hunt.

4. Check out their website

A variety of entries are available on the province's site, looking at past data and how that could affect your hunting season. This includes:
