Residents of Snow Lake can begin making their way home soon.
Snow Lake Council announced Tuesday that, based on recommendations from the Manitoba Wildfire Service and Manitoba Emergency Management Organization, they have rescinded the mandatory evacuation order effective this Friday.
As residents return home, they are advised that there will be increased vehicle activity by the Manitoba Wildfire Service as they continue to keep an eye on nearby fires. They say there may also still be smoke plumes visible that the MWS will be monitoring.
A black dumpster will be placed in the Stittco parking lot in town for evening household garbage, which residents are encouraged to make use of due to increased wildlife activity in the community.
A Welcome centre has also been set up in town to provide resources and assistance to returning residents.
The Centre will be open Friday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Resources such as mental health supports, Red Cross, Service Canada, and social assistance will be available for all community members. A food bank will be available at the Welcome Centre to those in need as supplies last.
"The Town thanks all residents for their patience and resilience during this evacuation. We look forward to welcoming everyone safely back to the community," said the town in a post on Facebook.
The Manitoba Wildfire Service continues to respond to 153 active wildfires across the province, bringing the total to 417 wildfires to date, well above the average of 331 fires for this time of year.
