Residents are being advised that the City of Moose Jaw will begin its unidirectional water main flushing program the week of Sept. 2.
The flushing is scheduled for zones 1 and 2 this year. The work is expected to take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The project is expected to be completed by Sept. 14.
There are several benefits for scheduled flushing of the city’s water mains including:
Removing mineral deposits and sedimentation, thereby improving water quality
Increasing the hydraulic carrying capacity of the mains
Potentially reducing water distribution pumping costs
Residents are asked to refrain from using water during that time as it may have a brown or rusty appearance. The discolouration shouldn’t last more than a few days after the project is completed.
If discolouration continues following the completion of the flushing, residents can open the cold water taps one at a time for 30 to 60 seconds to clear any water containing sediment.
If the water remains cloudy, repeat the process for another 30 to 60 seconds.
Any concerns can be directed using the “Report an Issue” function on the City of Moose Jaw’s website or the City of Moose Jaw app.
