Swift Current’s lifeguards and firefighters are set to go head-to-head this weekend in a fun-filled community event at Fairview Pool.
Representatives from both groups joined the Country 94.1 Morning Show earlier this week to preview the competition. From the City of Swift Current, lifeguards Daisy Dick and Megan Chisholm were joined by firefighter Bailey Habscheid to talk about the showdown.
The event will see three firefighter challenges and three lifeguard challenges, with the outcome decided by a tiebreaker obstacle course. While the lifeguards teased that “firefighters can’t swim,” Chisholm claimed, the fire department says they’ve been preparing to turn the tide.
“This past year, we took some lessons to make sure to get our swimming up to par,” laughed Habscheid. “Hopefully that helps us out in that regard, and we can come out on top this year.”
The competition runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission to the event is free, with a barbecue available by donation. Proceeds will go toward supporting the Southwest Facility Foundation.
Organizers say the afternoon is all about community spirit, friendly rivalry, and giving residents a chance to cheer on local lifeguards and firefighters outside of their usual roles.
“Not last year but the year before, the lifeguards beat us,” Habscheid added. “So, we’re looking for a little revenge this time around.”
The public is encouraged to come out, enjoy the barbecue, and stick around after the event to relax by the pool.
