The whole family, from young to old, should be in store for a fun weekend with the return of Streetfest in Humboldt.

Friday and Saturday will be filled with activities, entertainment, shopping, food, fun and more in the downtown area of the city.

Downtown BID Chairperson Alyssa Hergott says providing plenty of options was a key goal for the event.

“Have the kids fest for the little ones and then the street dance is for an older crowd. Although you can still bring your kids if you want.”

She added, “We try to get in as many varieties in different cultures as possible so that everybody feels included and well, and we also try to keep as much of it free and accessible as possible.”

Hergott noted that this year there will also be wheelchair accessible bathrooms available as well.

Friday will give the BID Businesses to hold their sidewalk sales and for the kids, there will be activities at the Reid Thompson Public Library and the Humboldt Museum.

In the evening there will be Chalk Art at the Museum.

Food Trucks will pull up in the afternoon, giving the food fanatics some options.

The first portion of Streetfest will end with Movie in the Park inside of Civic Park. Concession will open at 8:00, with the movie beginning at Dusk. Lilo & Stitch will be the movie that will be shown on the big screen.

Saturday’s festivities will begin with a free pancake breakfast inside of the stage area.

Throughout the day, there will be entertainment at the Cultural Stage hosted by the Prairie Gateway Settlement Services.

Food Trucks and vendors will be lined up on Main Street throughout the day.

Kidsfest will be happening in Civic Park and will feature bouncy castles, facepainting, balloon games, yard games and activities including rugby, cricket and pinoy games.

There will also be games inside of the Library on Saturday.

Fans will have the chance to play some road hockey with the Humboldt Broncos on Main Street by the Library in the afternoon.

The grand finale for Streetfest will be the Street Dance on Saturday night featuring Brody Siebert and 40 Oz Philosophy.

Around 40 volunteers will be helping this weekend to make all the events run smoothly, but Hergott noted the four members of the Downtown BID will be very busy, she added last year she got 70,000 steps within the two days and she expects to be busy again this year.

Streetfest is an opportunity for residents to celebrate the downtown area's contributions to the community, but Hergott hopes that after spending time at Streetfest, citizens will make a trip downtown a part of their routine.

“It's a place that they can invest in and should invest in. And it is what makes Humboldt special and unique.”

Hergott explains, “We got our historic buildings down there.  We got food, we got shopping. It's just a great place to bring the family.”

She concluded, “I really hope that the humble residents see that not only during Streetfest, it is a place to be, but all throughout the year.”
