Recently, the Morden Police Service responded to a few assaults in the city.

One incident took place on August 11th.

“[It] happened in the early morning hours around 2:30 a.m., and it was with regards to a female accused who pushed her way into a residence,” said Inspector Sean Aune.

“When the homeowners and people inside the house wanted her out, that's when the assault took place.”

Damage on the way out

Inspector Aune added that as the accused left the residence, she also damaged two vehicles on the driveway leaving the property.

Although officers were not present at the incident, Inspector Aune said police received the report the following day and spoke with witnesses and the victims then.

The accused was subsequently arrested for Assault and two counts of Mischief Over $5,000 and released on an undertaking.

A confrontation at a local business

On August 12th, Inspector Aune said the police service was also called to an unrelated assault incident.

“This one was at 8:50 p.m., and this is where an individual had gone into a local business,” he said. “There was some sort of confrontation that happened, and the accused there assaulted the business owner and left.”

Inspector Aune said that in this case, the business owner did not wish to press charges but instead opted to ban the individual from the premises.

“Our members accommodated that, and we'll locate the accused and ban them,” said Inspector Aune.

The inspector said the decision for the ban is the route some community members take when they don’t wish to be drawn into the court process.

“It’s a way that they can just ensure that the person doesn't come back and cause it again,” he said.

“Once that banning order is in place, then our officers can charge the individual for trespassing, and it can be done without the victim or the owner having to be involved.”
