SaskEnergy will perform controlled natural gas flaring at the Luseland Town Border Station on Monday, August 25, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., the company announced, cautioning residents and drivers in the area to expect a temporary 40-foot flame.
The flare, located within the RM of Progress at the northeast corner of Luseland near the intersection of Highways 675 and 771, is part of scheduled maintenance on the local natural gas system. SaskEnergy said the procedure involves isolating a portion of the gas line and safely burning the gas in a controlled flare, an industry-standard practice that reduces the carbon footprint of vented gas by 85 per cent.
Company officials emphasized that residential gas service in the area will not be affected and that the site will be monitored to ensure public safety. The RM of Progress, the Town of Luseland, and the local fire department have been notified of the upcoming work.
