Eligible Saskatchewan communities can now submit applications for funding under the Provincial-Territorial stream of the Canadian Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF), the government announced Thursday. Applications are due by Nov. 28, 2025.

CHIF provides financial support to help communities build or improve critical infrastructure, including drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste systems, which in turn supports additional housing development across the province.

“Families in Saskatchewan deserve to live and work in communities with reliable and modern infrastructure,” said Buckley Belanger, Secretary of State for Rural Development. “By working with our partners to improve critical systems like drinking water, wastewater, stormwater and solid waste management, we are helping communities strengthen services and support more housing for the future.”

Government Relations Minister Eric Schmalz added that infrastructure investments are vital for sustainable community growth. “The Government of Saskatchewan is actively engaging with partners and stakeholders to provide a foundation for building a strong, safe and secure province. CHIF will be instrumental in enhancing Saskatchewan’s development, and we strongly urge eligible applicants to apply,” he said.

Eligible applicants include municipal governments, public sector bodies, incorporated not-for-profit organizations, Indigenous groups, and private sector entities partnering with eligible public or Indigenous applicants.

Under the program, the federal government will provide $187.9 million, while the provincial government will contribute approximately $155 million to support housing-enabling infrastructure projects.

More information on eligibility requirements and the online application process is available on the Government of Saskatchewan’s CHIF webpage.
