Five local events are happening this weekend, from Friday (Aug. 22) to Sunday, that residents, families, pride members, and fantasy lovers can attend to make the most out of the summer heat before the month ends. 

Here's a look at what's scheduled:

Medieval Faire and Artisan Market

A blast from the past and a fantasy adventure will be enchanting Strathmore this weekend. 

The Medieval Faire and Artisan Market will be showcased at the Strathmore Agricultural Grounds from Friday to Sunday.

Event hours are as follows: 

  • Friday: 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Attendees can expect jousting, historical dancing, storytelling, and vendors selling fantasy-themed trinkets. 

Tickets at the gate are $14 for anyone over 13 years old, $11 for seniors and children, and free for children under six. 

FAIM Grand Opening

Foothills Advocacy in Motion Society (FAIM) is hosting a grand opening.

The society is marking the celebration on Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Along with the unveiling of FAIM's new building at 1016 Westridge Road, the event includes a barbecue, live music, prizes, and cake by Kim's Katering. 

Drive for a Difference True North golf tournament

True North Society is hosting its annual charity golf tournament. 

The tournament, Drive for a Difference, kicks off Friday at the Track Golf Course in Langdon.

Registration begins at 12:30 p.m., with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.

Dinner is included, and the event will wrap up with an awards ceremony and closing remarks.

Proceeds will be donated to the True North's emergency domestic violence shelter.

Pride Party

Strathmore's Pride Community is celebrating with colour at its third annual Pride party.

The community is repainting the Pride crosswalk at Kinsmen Park on Sunday at 11 a.m. 

Attendees can partake in conversations about identity and enjoy music, pizza, and games.

Rockyford Library Show and Shine 

Rockyford and area residents can check out some vintage vehicles this weekend.

The Rockyford Library is hosting its annual Show and Shine on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., behind the community hall building. 

The event features various vendors, a beer garden, 50/50 draw, music, food, and door prizes. 

There will also be a kids' contest, awarding the child who creates the best cardboard vehicle.

Vehicle registration is $20, with proceeds supporting Rockyford Library programs. 

With all these events, Strathmore residents can expect to make the most out of their last week of summer.
