After a week marked by some frankly scorching conditions, Moose Jaw is in for at least one more dose of pleasant summer weather before the season wraps up.

The week opens with sunshine today through to Thursday, and the daily highs are nothing to sneeze at either.

“Definitely getting back into some warmer air for today and the next couple of days, probably until the middle of next week,” said Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) meteorologist Crawford Luke.

Moose Jaw typically sees highs around 24°C at the tail end of August, but Luke explained that we are going to be sitting several degrees above that for the foreseeable future.

“Just looking ahead at things, it might not be 30°C every day, but it definitely looks like a long-lasting pattern of warmer than normal conditions,” he said.

“(Temperatures) start to fall off pretty quickly as we get to the end of August and into September. So, this is a pretty good warm spell that we're seeing where we have multiple days basically at or above that that mark.”

The bout of nice weather is fueled by a high-pressure ridge over Alberta, and it’s not just the temperatures that are an anomaly, it’s also the lack of strong winds.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if later this week — like Thursday, Friday and Saturday — we got into a bit more of a breeze, but certainly the next few days are looking pretty calm, especially by Saskatchewan standards,” he said.

Even the rain in the forecast for Friday, which is marring an otherwise near-perfect week, isn’t a guarantee as ECCC models are split on whether or not we will wrap up the week with precipitation.

Luke said that with summer holidays coming to a close shortly and up to 10 days of pleasant weather in the forecast, now is the time to get out and enjoy it while it lasts.

Here’s this week at a glance:

  • Today: Sunny and 28°,

  • Tomorrow: Sunny and 32°,

  • Wednesday: Sunny and 31°,

  • Thursday: Cloud and 28°,

  • Friday: Rain and 24°,

  • Saturday: A few clouds and 26°
