As September approaches, post-secondary students will soon be settling into campuses across the province, including Carlton Trail Campuses throughout the region at St. Peter’s College, affiliated with USask, in Muenster.
A provincial release states that approximately 54,000 students will be heading back to classes following the long weekend. The Government of Saskatchewan says it remains committed to post-secondary students and their financial needs.
"Our province's future depends on a well-educated, innovative and passionate generation of leaders," Advanced Education Minister Ken Cheveldayoff said. "Saskatchewan's post-secondary institutions deliver exceptional education, training and research opportunities that respond to the province's labour force and community needs while preparing students for a prosperous future."
More than $46 million in grants, loans and scholarships are being made to students through provincial funding to help with the costs of tuition, books and living expenses. The Ministry also notes that post-secondary education is a key consideration in the goals of Saskatchewan's Growth Plan, Labour Market Strategy and Health Human Resources Action Plan.
Programs at both local colleges support training for those seeking to enter health care and provide much needed services to rural areas.
Saskatchewan post-secondary graduates may also be eligible to receive up to $24,000 through the Graduate Retention Program, which provides a tax rebate for those who live and file income tax in Saskatchewan.
"We want students to know they are supported not just while they are in school, but after they graduate, too," Cheveldayoff said. "Investing in post-secondary students is investing in Saskatchewan's future."
