Unity RCMP say a man is dead following a single-vehicle rollover west of Unity on Saturday afternoon.

Officers were called around 3 p.m. to the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 675, where the vehicle had left the road and rolled. The driver, an adult man from British Columbia, was declared dead at the scene by paramedics. His family has been notified.

Mounties say they had received multiple reports of the vehicle being driven erratically prior to the crash. Officers attempted to conduct traffic stops, but the vehicle did not pull over and continued at a high rate of speed.

When officers arrived at the crash scene, they provided first aid until EMS took over.

Because of the police interaction prior to the rollover, Saskatchewan RCMP notified the province’s Serious Incident Response Team. The agency reviewed the matter and determined it did not fall within its mandate.

RCMP say they are disclosing the police interaction “as part of our ongoing commitment to transparency.”

The investigation remains ongoing with the help of an RCMP collision reconstructionist.
