The Stanley Community Pathway connecting Winkler and Morden through the R.M. of Stanley continues to take shape as groundwork, paving and other aspects continue.
The goal remains for the project to be ready for use some time this Fall, and Winkler Mayor Henry Siemens reflected on how this is a great example of working together allowing for more to be done than alone.
"As it's getting closer and closer to being done, it's a celebration, to me, of what can be done when we work together to get a much bigger project than we can do on our own," offered the Mayor. "The citizens of Winkler are paying only $250,000 towards this $4.2 million project."
Morden and Stanley also committed $250,000 each.
Who is picking up the bulk of the project cost?
"Between the Government of Canada, the Government of Manitoba and some local community business leaders they're picking up $3.5 million of that tab," said Siemens. "For us to be able to get a pathway like this between those two communities for that level of investment just seemed like a no brainer to us on Council when we supported it. As we see it coming to fruition now, and and looking forward to what that's going to be, it's really nice to see."
