Strathmore resident Ryan Grasdahl has passed away.
According to his obituary, Grasdahl passed away on Monday (Aug. 25) in Calgary with his family by his side. He was 29 years old.
Grasdahl was involved in a life-threatening accident in Tampa, Florida, earlier this year. He returned to Canada in early June, being placed in Foothills Hospital.
To support his family as Grasdahl was in hospital, a GoFundMe was set up, raising over $85,000 of its $125,000 goal before his passing. The local A&W also held a fundraiser, donating proceeds from teen burger sales to the campaign.
"His willingness to help others and enjoy life with friends and family will be sorely missed," his obituary read.
A celebration of life has been scheduled for Aug. 31 at Sacred Heart Parish, beginning at 2 p.m. Grasdahl's family asks that those attending wear green to honour his love for the Saskatchewan Roughriders football team.
"Ryan will be laid to rest in a private family gathering at a later date."
In place of flowers, his family asks that people donate to the neurology and neuroscience unit at Foothills Medical Centre.
