As firefighters worked to clear the vehicle, a passerby approached them and reported seeing five individuals flee the crash site, running through a nearby potato field and into a wooded area.

RCMP soon arrived on scene, and Austin firefighters assisted officers in a brief ground search. The group was not located, though one article of clothing was found during the search.
