On the second weekend of September, Winkler folks can get ready to cruise around town and find hidden treasures on curbsides throughout the city.
Wendy Klassen, Assistant City Manager, calls the Winkler Curbside Giveaway, “Kind of a fun way to say, ‘Hey people need to get rid of things, not everything is landfill, and somebody else might love what you have.’”
The details
The two days that the city has set aside for the pickup are Friday, the 12th, and Saturday, the 13th. Items being placed out on the curb for free must be clearly labelled as such.
Klassen says this, “So you’re not worried that you’re taking something that’s not there to be taken. Kids can leave their bikes out lying around, right?”
The Curbside Giveaway is an opportunity for people to leave the things they no longer need on the side of the curb for people to peruse, as well as a prime chance for fans of thrifting or second-hand items to find some interesting things up for grabs.
Klassen said that people can post what they’ve placed on the curb, or the haul they’ve found on the weekend, by using the ‘WinklerCurbside’ hashtag on social media.
