New road sign pointing people to Grill Lake Memorial site
A new road sign south of Unity on Highway 21 now directs drivers to the Grill Lake WWII Memorial site. Installed in the past month, the sign was highlighted by Unity Legion Branch No. 90 as a way to encourage locals to explore the area’s military history. The memorial is about 20 minutes from town, and the Legion thanked the Ministry of Highways for the addition.
First pre-season game approaching fast for Kindersley Jr. Klippers
The Kindersley Jr. Klippers wrapped up training camp and are preparing for their pre-season opener in Drumheller on August 29. They'll also face Lloydminster and Humboldt before making final roster cuts ahead of the regular season, which begins September 19 in North Battleford.
Celebrating 105 years of history at the Kerrobert Courthouse
The Kerrobert Courthouse Restoration Society is celebrating the building’s 105th birthday with a community event and fundraiser on August 27. The group is raising funds for a major restoration project focused on repairing the deteriorating basement foundation. The celebration will include food, games, courthouse tours, and live entertainment, with donations supporting the restoration. The society also welcomes ongoing contributions to help preserve the historic courthouse.
Pre-season preparations underway for high school football
The Kindersley Kobras have kicked off their football season with new head coach Derek Walde leading the team. After two practices and a double session over the weekend, they prepare for a pre-season game against Shaunavon on Friday. The Kobras, returning to nine-aside play, aim to improve on a winless 2024 season. Their regular season opens September 5 in Meadow Lake. Meanwhile, other West Central teams in six-aside and nine-aside leagues are also gearing up for early September matchups.
Drive-in movie night a success in Kindersley
Kindersley Tourism hosted a successful drive-in movie night on August 23, showing The Wild Robot to local families. With careful planning and support from Synergy Credit Union, the event ran smoothly. Organizers are now considering making it a regular summer tradition.
