Sunset Palliative Care hosted its annual Rainbow Auction on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at the Herman Prior Activity Centre, raising vital funds to support its work in the community.

The auction featured numerous grand and minor prizes, all generously donated by local businesses.

Executive Director Aldene Moroz says the fundraiser was a wonderful success, meeting its financial goal thanks to strong community turnout. The funds will directly support sending caregivers to an important conference.

"Oh, it went wonderfully. We had a great turnout. We met our goal, which was really important. We wanted to send 21 people to the palliative care conference in Winnipeg and we'll be able to do that," Moroz says, adding that, "The people that came out and bought were so supportive of palliative care. Many, many of them have used our services over the years, and some are experiencing it right now."

A community effort reaches its goal

Attendees purchased tickets specifically for either the major or minor prizes. The tickets for each individual prize were placed into their own buckets, which were shaken before a winner was selected. Moroz confirmed the event raised approximately $10,000.

"I think we're just slightly around $10,000, which was our goal. We always feel that if we could make it to $10,000, that's our goal, and we're very happy," she says, going on to note that, "We probably have a few monetary donations still coming in from some of the businesses, so that's great."
