With the first day of school coming today, it's time to get back to those back to school traditions. Now these could be anything, but it seems a lot of families have different things they do on the first day of school, and our family is no different.
We take yearly Back to School photos of the girls getting ready to head off to their big day. Both myself and my wife Amanda do certain poses with the girls, which over time of course will show their growth as they get bigger and bigger. My wife, smartly made the choice to do a hug with legs wrapped around her. I chose to have them up on my shoulders. Which, when my oldest, Delta, was 4? No problem, easy stuff. But now as she is 10 and keeps growing, this becomes a more trying task, as my knees have not grown and gotten stronger as she has. Rather they have done the opposite.
But, whether it takes me 5 seconds to lift and stand up, or the usage of a wall to get my balance right, we'll keep up the tradition. It's fun seeing the changes each and every year. Albeit, a little sad too, because they're growing up. But I read something somewhere earlier today. It was a quote that said, "If they are loud in your house, you've built a space where they feel safe, a space of love." And we've got one heck of a noisy house. :)
