The search for a 69-year-old man, who had been missing since mid-July, has come to a tragic end.
On August 30, a cat crate bearing Stewart Campbell’s last name was found in a wooded area of a field roughly three kilometres southwest of Springstein, Manitoba. The discovery prompted renewed search efforts by the Stonewall RCMP’s Search and Rescue team, alongside volunteers from Winnipeg Search and Rescue.
Two days later, on September 1, Campbell was found deceased in the area.
RCMP say the investigation is ongoing, but no further details have been released at this time.

Campbell was last seen in the early morning hours of July 15 near Stonewall. His vehicle was later discovered on July 24 in a rural area near Road 3 West in the RM of MacDonald, about 500 metres north of Highway 2. Despite extensive ground and aerial searches, there had been no confirmed sightings until the recent discovery.
The RCMP had issued a Silver Alert and appealed to residents to check their properties and security footage, fearing Campbell may have been confused or in medical distress at the time of his disappearance.
The news of his passing has deeply affected the community and all those involved in the search.
“Our thoughts are with Mr. Campbell’s family, friends, and community at this difficult time,” the RCMP said in a brief statement.
