Residents in parts of MacGregor are dealing with a water shutoff and precautionary boil water advisory.
The Municipality of North Norfolk says service is shut down Wednesday, September 3, starting at 8 a.m. near Maple Street, to allow for emergency line repairs.
“You will be without water September 3rd for the day or until the repair is complete. Prepare for water shut off by filling pails or tubs with water immediately,” notes the municipality in a public notice.
Provincial boil water notice
Once water service is restored, residents will remain under a boil water advisory until further notice.
Manitoba Health, the Medical Officer of Health, and the Office of Drinking Water, Manitoba Environment and Climate Change confirm the advisory is necessary to protect public health.
The advisory applies to the Town of MacGregor water distribution system, including the following addresses:
- 12 Fawcett Rd
- 74, 75, 82, 83, 87, 90, 95, 99, and 107 Victoria St S
- 39, 62, 70, 74, and 75 Victoria St S
- 82 Maple St
“Until further notice, all water used for consumption should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute before it is used for drinking and ice making, preparing beverages such as infant formula, preparing food including washing fruits and vegetables, or brushing teeth,” says the provincial advisory.
It adds that boiling is not needed for laundry, handwashing, or bathing older children and adults, though young children should be sponge bathed to avoid swallowing unboiled water.
Bottled water can be used as an alternative.
Residents are also being reminded to handle hot water carefully.
“To avoid burn injuries from hot water, caution should be taken. Please keep young children away from boiling water. Place kettles and pots away from counter and stove edges,” remarks the advisory.
